About
I have been writing books for children for many years. Three of my books are published and more are on the way. In addition to writing for children, I teach adults about writing for children at The Loft Literary Center. I also do school visits and present at writer and teacher conferences.

I have one pet - a very independent cat named Momo. But really we just call him Kitty or Mr. Fancy Pants. He sometimes hangs out with me while I'm writing. Other times he finds new comfy spots for naps.
I LOVE to read books and I read around 3-5 novels every week. That's a lot of books! I hope you enjoy reading too!

I grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and near Grand Rapids, Michigan. I attended college at The University of Michigan where I studied English and Theatre & Drama. I met my husband during college. We've been married 27 years and have one daughter who's in her 20s now. I have one brother who lives about 2 miles from me with his family (including 4 nephews!) We talk on the phone almost every day. The (non-writing) jobs I have had include working at a children's theater company, Newton's Apple (a PBS children's show), a public school teaching English and drama, a private school teaching drama, the Mill City Museum, the James J. Hill House, and two awesome bookstores. Whew! I've had a lot of jobs.
My favorite childhood books include the NARNIA series and TUCK EVERLASTING. I love reading, watching movies, walking, and hanging out with family and friends. My favorite color is purple and if I were to become an animal, I would choose an eagle because they are at the top of the food chain and they can fly!
